"If it hasn’t been in the hand and the body.…it can’t be in the brain!"

DPSSLEarly Years program (Pre-Nur to II) is a balanced play and activity-based program which provides a stimulating environment offering the children endless possibilities and opportunities to be in charge and to be the protagonist of their own learning. Our programrecognizes that sensitive psycho-social stimulation, emotional security, play and social interactions are defining part of children’s early experiences and hence is a child-centered format catering to individual learning needs of children, thereby giving ample opportunities to hone their Multiple Intelligences.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach we believe that children form their own personality during the early years of development and that they are endowed with "a hundred languages". They are concrete thinkers and don’t think in abstract ways. They need active, participatory learning that uses their senses. They need to touch, feel, and participate in experiences. The classroom’s curriculum stems from the particular interests of children. This kind of learning makes the child a happy, keen, interested and a lifelong learner.

The curriculum is Inter-disciplinary in nature which involves all the domains of learning- Physical, Health & Motor, Sensory & Perpetual development, Cognitive development, Language acquisition, Numeracy, Personal & Socio-emotional, Creative & Aesthetic appreciation, thereby promoting the holistic development of the children.Parents are a vital component to the Reggio Emilia philosophy. We respect parents as child’s first teacher and involve parents in every aspect of the curriculum.

The approach is a complete balance between structured and unstructured; active and quiet; outdoor and indoor; self-directed and adult initiated learning opportunities and individual, small group and largegroup activities which are related to the child’senvironment, are enjoyable yet challenging for children.

The teacher is considered a co-learner and collaborator with the child and not just an instructor. She acts as afacilitatorwho scaffolds learning and provides ample learning opportunities. Learning experiences are built around various themes that require active exploration, reasoning, problem solving and acquisition of concepts and skills.

We encourage children to take the initiative/participate. When children participate, they acquire skills to negotiate, compromise, resolve conflicts, to plan, cooperate and become acquainted with a culture of democratic decision-making.
