Metacognitive Classrooms

Metacognitive Classrooms

Whenever we paint a picture of a classroom the boring white walls and the black board with white chalk come to our mind but this time as I weave this loom of an ordinary classroom, I’d urge you to see it a bit differently, not like the cage or prison we assume rather as a place that is meant to amuse. Classrooms give us the opportunity to enhance our learning and as B.B. King once said “The beautiful thing about learning is no one can take it away from you.”

As we make our way towards learning, never letting the ennui quench the candle of curiosity would be the greatest hurdle to overcome. These classrooms are not only the Math classes or French lessons, it is rather the discipline, the urge to learn more, to be better and lastly to grow ourselves. I think teachers do a wonderful job of helping us in this journey. There are so many wonderful stories on how much impact can cause a lasting impression on a person by spending just 45 minutes with them everyday, but a story that really touched me was of Oprah Winfrey talking about her relationship with her fourth-grade teacher. She says,” I always, because of her, felt I could take on the world. She did exactly what teachers are supposed to do, they create a spark for learning that lives with you from then on, she adds “It’s why I have a talk show today.”

From the above-mentioned example, I want you to take the understanding that learning lessons in our classrooms is only the first step towards learning the great lessons of life and maybe at the start things might not be perfect but if we give learning and curiosity a chance to lead, I am positive anyone would prosper.
