Online Interaction with an American Astrophysicist of NASA

May 16, 2017

On May 4th, 2017, as many as 20 students of classes IX and X attended an online interaction through live streaming with Dr. Madhulika Guhathakurta, a NASA scientist who had worked closely with NASA’s Helio-Physics division. During the interaction, Dr. Guhathakurta delved deep into the physics of the Sun elaborating on how the study of the Sun and its atmosphere is important for the Earth as solar mass ejections could release great amount of energy that is enough to destabilize the Earth’s magnetosphere. She also discussed about the experiments NASA plans to conduct during the solar eclipse that America is going to experience on August 21st as it occurs once in every hundred years. It was an informative session which ended with students asking her questions through live chat to get their doubts clarified. Dr. Guhathakurta ended the interaction by advising the students that the ultimate mission of any scientific probe should be to spread awareness. She added that for the future of the world, we must not forget the ‘great star’ that brings life to us every day.
